What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is different from other therapies in that it is drug free, there is no physical manipulation and the conscious mind, with its anxious or analytical thoughts, is bypassed. It is the conscious mind which can often hinder the success of other forms of psychological work such as counselling or psychotherapy. With Solution Focused Hypnotherapy the client and therapist work together to focus on the changes that the client wants to make in their life.  Beneficial results are often achieved faster than with other therapies because we do not focus on the problems, we focus on the goals that the client wants to achieve.

The client will be given an overview of the workings of the mind, helping them to understand how sometimes we can feel like areas of our life are out of our control.

Using the tool of hypnosis the therapist guides the client into a relaxed state enabling direct access to their subconscious mind. This is where our instinctive behaviour patterns and natural reactions are formed. Using positive suggestion and imagery the therapist is able to focus on the behaviours that the client wishes to change.

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is the bringing together of the conscious and subconscious minds in a trance state. It is a safe, powerful technique creating a deeply relaxed state of the body, mind and emotions. It is also a perfectly natural state that we are often in during our everyday lives i.e whilst reading a book, watching television, or doing repeated tasks. The therapist guides you into a relaxed trance state by the sound of their voice. It is not sleep.

Is it safe?
No-one can be hypnotised against their will and even when in trance people can still reject any of the suggestions given if they are not appropriate.

Is all Hypnotherapy the same?
There are different types of therapy for different problems:

Suggestion Therapy: The subconscious mind accepts suggestions during therapy to promote and reinforce positive messages. Used for stopping smoking, exam nerves, nail biting and similar problems.

Solution Focused Therapy: Effective for treatment of fears, phobias, weight loss anxiety, depression, self-esteem and many more. It helps to desensitise you from emotions of past or future events and to achieve goals.

How many sessions will it take?
The number of sessions required varies as it is dependant on the client's problem, however this and the type of therapy will be assessed during the Initial Consultation.

What does it feel like?
Hypnosis is a very individual thing and different people experience different sensation, but it's a little like that feeling you get just before you drop off to sleep. Neither awake nor asleep, just that nice 'drifty' place.

What happens if I fall asleep?
Most people do not fall asleep, however even if you did, it's useful to know that many people have learnt a new language in their sleep. And as we know people in a coma hear all that is going on, which is why their visitors are encouraged to talk normally to them. So I wouldn't worry if you do sleep for a moment, the valuable work is still being absorbed.

What's 'Clinical Hypnosis.'?
I practise Clinical Hypnosis, which means that it differs from someone who uses hypnosis as part of a stage act, or for the entertainment of others. Clinical Hypnotherapy is carried out for the absolute benefit of a consenting client, after agreeing the treament plan.

Will you make me cluck like a chicken?
Only if you want to, - I'll leave that to the stage acts and Saturday night entertainment shows. frown

Will I be okay to drive home?
Yes you will, you'll be in complete control.

Will I remember what hapened during Hypnosis?
You will remember most things but not all, but this is the way the memory normally works. For example when you listen to a speech you don't remember everything that has been said, but you will recall the majority of it. The same applies to Hypnosis.

Will I lose control and consciousness?
During Hypnotherapy my clients are aware and in control of themselves and everything that happens. So even if I left the room you would come round quite easily by yourself in a few moments.

Are there any dangers?
None at all. You will be in a completely safe environment and comfortably relaxed.
